PHCA Update

7/2/2010

4th of July
Peachtree Hills Civic Association
Keeping You Informed
July 2, 2010
1. PHCA Membership Counts! Check PHCA’s Membership Temperature Gauge at Kings Circle. As you can see, we are STILL well below the 400 mark of PHCA members. We currently have about 200 but need 200 more people to sign up before the end of the month. AND, IF YOU WANT THESE EMAILS TO KEEP COMING, JOIN TODAY!!!  THIS WILL BE YOUR LAST E-MAIL NEWSLETTER.

Remember, your membership dues help PHCA insure that we have the budget to maintain the Security Patrol. Also, the more members we have, the more hours that security will be “coming down your street”. Unless we all share the burden, we stand to lose the benefit. With the recent increase in crime in our area, we need your membership so we can increase our security patrol hours. If we have 50 new families join PHCA, we can add a new patrol shift each week! We’ve attached a Membership Q&A to help explain more about what the association does for you! Click on the second Download File Below link to read it.

Please take a moment and write that check if you have not done so.  We’ve made it easy by offering you 4 options to join/renew this year:

·       Complete the Membership Form attached on the link below. You can pay online through PayPal link. (PayPal charges a $5.00 processing fee).

·       Complete the application & enclose it with your check & mail to Peachtree Hills Civic Association, P.O. Box 14861, Atlanta, GA 30324-1861.

·       Give it to your block captain.

·       Drop off your check & completed form with our Treasurer Jerry Matheny at 2211 Willow (404-915-1140) (in his new lockable mailbox) or Grace Hawthorne at 11 Roanoke Ave. on the north side.

Please contact Sam Williams if you have any questions at samfwjr@yahoo.com or 678-984-8293.

2. PHCA Security/Candidates Meeting - Tuesday, July 13 at 7:00 pm at Boneheads in Peachtree Battle Shopping Center. Make plans now to hear Maj. Browning and Lt. Cotter from APD Zone 2 discuss how they’ve addressed the recent crime increase in our area.  Several candidates running for local offices may be present for you to meet after their presentation. Stay tuned for more details.

3.  HELP KEEP THE CREEK BANKS IN PEACHTREE HILLS PARK FREE OF KUDZU AND WEEDS - Sat., July 17 from 9-Noon.
Please join together with a crew of volunteers from Park Pride to help us clear out the kudzu, brush and weeds from the banks of the creek in Peachtree Hills Park on Saturday morning, July 17th, between 9 AM and 12 PM.  The Atlanta Bureau of Watershed Management has done a magnificent job reclaiming the creek from a serious erosion problem, and the Parks Department has planted a lot of beautiful trees along the creek bank. But with the fiscal crisis, there is not enough money for the City to keep the invasive weeds and kudzu from choking the bank. It's up to all of us in the neighborhood to keep our park beautiful and accessible.  So mark your calendars for Saturday, July 17th and join your neighbors for several hours of work for a very good cause.

4. Security Update.
The thieves are still prowling around our neighborhood. Things have been fairly quiet recently until a break-in occurred at a vacant home on Springdale last week. We’re not sure yet what was taken from the home.  Please call 911 if you see anything suspicious and then report it to our security officers at 404-771-3812.

5.  July 4th Peachtree Road Race Celebration at Covenant.
Everyone is invited to watch the Peachtree Road Race from Covenant! Join us for coffee and doughnuts beginning at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 4th. The Shepard Center Wheelchair Race starts at 6:55 a.m. and the footrace begins at 7:30. 2461 Peachtree Road (at Terrace Drive), 404-237-0363, www.covenantpresbyterian.us

6.  Wrong Way Parking Enforcement.   fyi...the City of Atlanta’s new parking enforcement company has begun patrolling neighborhoods for cars parked the wrong way. We’ve heard from several PH residents and people in other neighborhoods who’ve received tickets recently. Whether you agree with it or not, there is a city ordinance that allows them to charge you a $25 fine for parking the wrong way in front of your house.

Have a happy and safe July 4th,

Debbie Perdue
