PHCA Security Meeting
Many thanks to the 55+ people who attended our Security meeting last week with Major Browning, Lt. Cotter and Hannah Chung, our local assistant district attorney. Since the 1st of May, the APD has held 9 checkpoints in our area that resulted in 20 arrests. They are also have some people of interest they are watching in the area. They stressed the need for everyone to call 911 immediately when they see something suspicious like someone going into a home when no one is home. Please give a detailed description of the person, including tag numbers of cars. With the current technology used by the city, 911 can handle the volume of calls.
Lt. Cotter is working with the city to get crime prevention signs installed throughout the neighborhood. Major Browning said the main things we should do to help prevent crime are to call 911 and report anything suspicious, write down all serial numbers and VIN numbers of our cars, do not leave anything in our cars, and make sure our homes are secure with strong locks and motion lighting.
Ms. Chung said the DA's office has created a burglary task force with the goal of tracking what types of homes are targeted, what types of things are stolen, and tracks stolen goods through a serial number database. She also told us that burglaries are now being handled by elected judges and not appointed judges.

Peachtree Entrance Project Completed
If you have driven by the Peachtree Rd. entrance this weekend, you may have noticed that the planting was completed over the weekend. It looks fantastic. Please join the PHCA Board in thanking residents Brent Brown, Clinton Cenac of Clinton Cenac Landscape & Design, and Matt Cathell of Gunnison Tree for their hard work completing this project. This really makes our entrance look great.
From our friends in Garden Hills - Break-in on North Hills Drive
The following was sent in by a Garden Hills neighbor...
I live [in the 2800 block] of North Hills Drive. A man broke into my house on Monday night at around 3:00 a.m. (so it was really Tuesday morning). He entered through a back door, into a laundry room, and then into the kitchen. He stole a laptop sitting on the kitchen table. He picked up my briefcase as well, but it was filled with only documents and checkbooks, and he dropped that in the laundry room, I suppose on his way out. It was dark, but I saw his image from the adjacent bedroom. I wouldn't be able to describe him at all b/c it was so dark. There were 3 people in the house sleeping and 3 dogs. One dog started to bark, but I sort of silenced him. I'm glad we didn't encounter him. It happened very quickly, just a few seconds. I reported it to the police. My lock on that door was too weak, so I'm doing a security upgrade all around now, but I thought you might want the neighbors to know to be extra careful.
