1. PHCA Membership Plea! Ok, so we are getting desperate! Check PHCA’s Membership Temperature Gauge at Kings Circle. As you can see, we are STILL well below the 400 mark of PHCA members. We currently have almost 300 but need 100 more people to sign up before the end of the month. AND, IF YOU WANT THESE EMAILS TO KEEP COMING, JOIN TODAY!!!
Remember, your membership dues help PHCA insure that we have the budget to maintain the Security Patrol. Also, the more members we have, the more hours that security will be “coming down your street”. Unless we all share the burden, we stand to lose the benefit. With the recent increase in crime in our area, we need your membership so we can increase our security patrol hours. If we have 50 new families join PHCA, we can add a new patrol shift each week! Please take a moment and write that check if you have not done so. We’ve made it easy by offering you 4 options to join/renew this year:
· Complete the Membership Form attached on the “Download File” link below.
You can pay online through PayPal link. (PayPal charges a $5.00 processing fee).
· Complete the application & enclose it with your check & mail to Peachtree Hills Civic Association, P.O. Box 14861, Atlanta, GA 30324-1861.
· Give it to your block captain.
· Drop off your check & completed form with our Treasurer Jerry Matheny at 2211 Willow (404-915-1140) (in his new lockable mailbox) or Grace Hawthorne at 11 Roanoke Ave. on the north side.
Please contact Sam Williams if you have any questions at samfwjr@yahoo.com or 678-984-8293.
2. Security Update. Lt. Cotter, the APD officer who spoke to us at our recent Security Summit, is being transferred to Narcotics and will be conducting drug investigations city wide. 'I really enjoyed working in Zone 2 and working with the different community groups. Please stay in touch since I am still working in city. If you need me for anything please call me at (404) 617-8030. I really enjoyed working with you.' We wish him good luck in his new job and new responsibilities.
Lt. Joyner will be taking Lt. Cotter's place. Sgt. Harty, who attended the Security Summit meeting with Lt. Cotter, will still be assigned to Zone 2 and he is aware of issues here in our neighborhood. We will be reaching out to Lt. Joyner about our recent increase in crime.
Please remember that Zone 2 can’t continue to assess trends, repeat offenders, etc without every neighbor with a concern or suspicion calling 911 and reporting it! So don’t rely on solely on emails & calls to PHCA alone – always call 911.
Car Vandalism - Cars parked in front of a home on Lindbergh were painted with racial and sexual slurs on the windows recently. Luckily, the paint washed right off, which was a relief. No other cars were affected around the block. The owners filed a police report to help the police track trends in the area. If this happens to you, even though this type of incident does not cause any personal damage, it should still be reported to the police.
Break-in on South Virginia Friday night. A renter reported that his apartment was broken into overnight last Friday night. A TV, laptop and computer monitor were stolen. APD was notified and an investigation is underway. NOTE: remember to close blinds/curtains at night when you are enjoying your flatscreen TV.
Mail Stolen & Car Side-swiped on Fairhaven (on the creek). A member reported that his mail was stolen recently and a credit card was taken. His car was also side-swiped. A police report was filed.
Let’s stay vigilant. Please call 911 if you see anything suspicious and then report it to our security officers at 404-771-3812.
3. National Night Out Tuesday, August 3 from 6-8 pm in Target’s back parking lot. This is America’s Night Out Against Crime! Join the City of Atlanta and Target to celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, August 3. Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, this event involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood associations, and local officials to focus on drug and crime prevention. This is a great opportunity to take the kids for good deals on food and educate them about our police & fire departments. And they will probably get some free stuff to take home. How can you beat that!
Chik-Fil-A and Pizza Hut will be providing great deals on food. Drinks will be provided by one of Target’s vendors. Here are the participating partners for this event:
The Atlanta Braves Street Team
Atlanta Fire Department
Atlanta Police Department
Environmental Protection Agency
4. Proposed Fulton County Property Tax Increase Public Hearings Aug. 3 at 11:00 am and 6:00 pm. The Fulton County School Board has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 2.35 percent. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this increase to be held at the Fulton County Board of Education Administration Building, 786 Cleveland Avenue SW on August 3 at 11:00 am and 6:00 pm.
5. PHCA Volunteers & Board Members Desperately Needed. Our new board starts in October and we need 6 new board members, including a Vice President and Secretary. We also need volunteers to take on various tasks such as the following:
· Sending out these Email Blasts (my term ends in September)
· Planning the Fall Festival in October (need 3-4 committee members)
· Updating the Membership Database
· Serving on the Membership Committee
· PHCA liaison with local businesses
If you are new to the neighborhood, this is a great way to get involved and meet new friends and neighbors – or if you’ve been here a while and enjoying the benefits of being member, please consider stepping up to help your community. Please email debbie.perdue@att.net if you want to be involved. You’ll meet some incredible people!

7. Mark your calendar for Aug. 28 from 8 AM - Noon. Help keep the creek banks in Peachtree Hills Park free of kudzu and weeds. Please join the Friends of Peachtree Hills Park and Community Gardeners to help clear out the kudzu, brush and weeds from the banks of the creek in Peachtree Hills Park on Saturday morning, August 28th, between 8 AM and 12 PM.
