If you can brave the cold, go see the wonderful progress thats taking shape with the path & wall. Brick update: sold 2 more, bringing us $70 ($100-$30 to produce) closer to building the flagpole plaza where theyll be installed.

We need more fundraising ideas! If you have ideas- dont be shy- let me know.  Andwe need to sell more bricks!

Well have a Friends of Peachtree Hills Park meeting soon- do weekday evenings (6pm?; 6:30?) work best for you-or we could do a Saturday. Let me know.

Great news- in between the torrential rain, work has begun on the walking trail! A beautiful granite retaining wall is taking shape behind the bleachers, and we sold 10 more bricks, for a total of 30.

To recap- we were about $10,000 short to build the flagpole plaza (near the tennis courts) where the bricks will be installed. Selling 30 bricks at $50 each brings us $1,050 closer to our goal ($1,500-$450 cost of bricks).

The Friends of Peachtree Hills Park need to raise thousands of dollars to install walking paths, landscaping, a flagpole, benches and other amenities. You can be part of this effort, and have a lasting reminder of your donation by purchasing bricks that will be installed in the flagpole plaza (near the tennis courts & playground).

Peachtree Hills Park Update (3/24/2009)

On March 23, 2009, Friends of Peachtree Hills Park members and others met at the park.  Lynn Saussy, project landscape architect, reviewed plans for the installation of walking paths.  We walked the proposed paths and gave Lynn feedback that she will use to refine the plan. Click here to see the proposed plan for the first section of the paths to be installed.

Peachtree Hills Park Update (12/30/2007)

by Betty Hanacek

Several years ago, led by Fannie Schubert, neighbors got together to address the sad state of Peachtree Hills Park. They called themselves the “Friends of Peachtree Hills Park” and spent countless hours removing truckloads of kudzu, poison ivy and trash. They also secured funding for park improvements. Surveys were conducted which showed that the primary improvements neighbors wanted were paths to walk/run on, native/hardy landscaping, better lighting and benches. They were willing to give up one of the baseball backstops (research showed that the 2 ball fields were never used at the same time) in order to accommodate paths.

Of course, it was not an easy process. The “Friends” endured endless meetings and correspondence with City of Atlanta staff whose responsibility to manage parks for the broader community (including reserving the playing fields for non-Atlantans for a fee in order to generate revenue) was often at odds with what neighbors wanted.  At long last, and with support from the PHCA Board, the plan was approved! (Click here to view the plan).

Before the plan can be implemented, though, the City must complete an important, long awaited creek bank restoration project, which involves complicated, almost endless City and Federal (the Feds have to approve anything involving waterways) bureaucracy.  Once all the approvals are completed, heavy earth moving equipment will be brought in. Following completion of the creek bank restoration project, we can begin implementing the park improvements.
